Security System Also called an Alarm System, an interconnected system of components which monitors the perimeter and interior of a building.

Smart Search This is a feature of our digital video recorders that allows you to search for changes in a particular area of an image over time. For example, if a wallet was stolen off of a table, you could go to a point on the video where the wallet is there, draw a virtual box around that area, then search the video recording for changes to that particular area. This would allow you to locate the exact point on the video where the wallet was removed.

Smoke / Smoke Detector A sensor that detects smoke in the air, which is connected to an alarm system control panel and relies on the alarm system for power and notifying the occupants (Smoke ALARMS have their own internal sounders, and are usually independent of a control system). Some system smoke detectors also include Heat detectors that trigger an alarm if the temperature in a room rises at an unusually rapid rate or reaches a pre-set heat limit, or both.

Snake (noun) A tool with a long, usually flat, and somewhat flexible wire used for fishing wire through enclosed spaces; it coils inside a case for storage. Some models are made of fiberglass. Often used as a verb to refer to the process of fishing wire through walls and other void spaces.

Stream The ballistic stream pattern is the most common in defense sprays and is available in the widest vari¬ety of models. Stream units deliver a blast of active agent in a targeted liquid stream. A MK-III unit sprays a range of between 8 to 12 feet.

Supervision A configuration that allows an alarm system control panel to make sure that other components of the system are intact.

Switch A switch will take multiple camera inputs and will show them on the monitor one at a time. Unlike a quad it will not display them all at once, instead it sequences through them showing one camera at a time. It will also allow you to select a particular camera to view.
