To set the date and time you will need to make sure  recording is stopped.
Press the menu button.
Use the arrows up or down until you get to system setup
Press the enter button
Use the arrows up or down until you get to Date/Time setup
press the enter button
Use the arrows up or down until you get to Date
press the enter button
Use the arrows up or down to adjust the date, you will also use the fast forward and rewind buttons to move over the numeric portion of the date, when done press the menu button.
Use the arrows up or down until you get to Time
press the enter button
Use the arrows up or down to adjust the time, you will also use the fast forward and rewind buttons to move over the numeric portion of the time, when done press the menu button.
